Can someone help me select a building for an architecture essay? I need to write about how the building is a building of its time. I really need to relate it to the culture at the time of which it was built. Can you suggest some ideas? I've also been recommended not to use a building of which will lead me into writing the whole essay on just the architecture of the building e.g cathedrals :/

What is the building on the Georgetown (DC) waterfront that has odd architecture? When driving into the city on the Whitehurst Freeway, aka K Street NW, I can see a number of buildings. I recognize the Kennedy Center and the Watergate Hotel, but there's a concrete-looking building that's right on the Georgetown waterfront. From the freeway you can mostly see the top of the building, there are some gardens up there etc. The architecture is kind of odd, lots of different heights and angles. What building is this?
Looking for building plans for modern style architecture home? Supposing you have 5 million dollars to spend on building a very unique, modern style home. Like the ones you see on movies, essentially built up of glass panels from exterior, and insides have white tiles and walls made of stone like in a futuristic laboratory or something like this. where can i get the practical design layouts/plans for this to actually build it? Can you recommend me a magazine of sort? Thank you.
What kind of architecture is an open building? Gonna try to explain this as best I can. You know certain hotels or large office buildings where you walk in, there's a lobby or some such, and it opens up to, say, an atrium with artificial ponds or trees and a restaurant, and you can look up and see all the way up to the roof, usually where a skylight is. And each floor is a balcony winding all the way around that looks over the middle. If anyone knows what I'm trying to get at here, what's the architectural term for a design like that? I'm trying to find out more about it.
Philly Building Architecture? I'm doing a project on how building have changed over time for a civil engineering/architecture course. I used to live in NE philly and I am interested in the Cottman Castor Shopping center and am trying to do it on that. I know that the huge building on the corner was a Lit's at one time as I have found pictures on the philly archives. However, I am at a loss for pictures of Clover and definatly Toy's R Us when it first opened and had it's rainbow striped look. I can recall it was very different from other TRU but I am too young to remember anything else. If anyone on here can give me any info on the architecture of both buildings through the years (where doors were located, additions, interior..etc.) it would be greatly appreciated and if anyone has any pictures they would be appreciated and credit will be given where it is due! Thank You Thanks a lot for a lot of the info. I believe my Clover did not have the bronze I do know that every one you have shown me in pictures did. Mine had a green canopy that looked the same as the bronze. That explains the huge pylon on Toys R Us (it was a Food Fair). Do you know if there were two entrances to the Toys R Us or just that one next to clover? If so, which wall was the entrance on? What was the interior of TRU like I can remember it was differenet from others but not much Thank you sir!
Americorps & Peace Corps: are there opportunities to work in construction or building? (architecture student)? Hi! I graduated from college 2 years ago with a BA in architecture, and in those 2 years, I've been teaching English in Japan, and am now ready to get back into architecture. I'm thinking it would be good to get some hands-on technical experience with just construction and building (I know it will be invaluable to my knowledge as an architect in the future) and am trying to figure out what to do. I will be looking for jobs at architecture and contracting/construction firms, but I came across these two organizations. Does anyone know if I would be able to get some experience with building in either of these? Thank you for your help!
(Middle Eastern Architecture) I would like to find this building? Many years ago I found a photo on the web of a building that I fell in love with. It is one of the most beautiful examples of Middle Eastern architecture I have ever seen. Unfortunately, I lost the link to the photo and have been fruitlessly searching for it ever since. I originally found it on Webshots, but a seach of that site has not turned up the photo. The picture showed a white Middle Eastern style building with a dome sitting in the middle of a large lake at dusk with a full moon overhead. If I remember the caption correctly it was some sort of a government building. I have done a search on major government buildings and prominent mosques without success. I have had good results with Yahoo! Answers so I was hoping someone might have an idea what building I am trying to locate. Not the Taj Mahal (much smaller than that but with some similarities) and certainly not the Knesset (what a horrible block of concrete).

Architecture: Unique Building in Continental Europe? I am trying to find the name and architect of a building i saw a photo of some time ago: it has all unique salvaged windows (a few hundred, none alike), very un-symmetrical design, apartments + retail on ground floor (i think). how long does it take to get a masters in building construction or masters in Architecture including bachelors Thinking about going to school for either building construction or architecture and I really dont know which route to choose from. I want to become a developer and have interest in both and I guess I want to figure out which way that would be simpler or easier I guess for me. I haven't been in school for quite some time now but wanting to change in life. If I do attend I would be aiming for Bachelors and then probably Masters afterwards but which major would be easiest and the fastest to get there. Meaning time frame.
Can you learn Architecture from '"The"' Building itself??? Hi, i am a 19 y/o architecture student. I am taking classes and have gotten mixed responses so I'm hoping the community can help on this one. If i was to travel to Paris or Beijing during the summers or breaks could i learn anything about their buildings by going to them? Do they have copied information/blueprints stored at them (not necessary to take but to look at). Like the techniques, information and figures of people/materials used on the Water Cube in Beijing. I would love nothing more than to go to the buildings themselves to learn and be inspired.

Would Architecture be a worthwhile career to pursue? Right now, I'm in the 8th grade and have absolutely no idea what I would want to take up as a career later in life. I've considered culinary arts since I like to cook, however, the last time I tried to cook a full meal for my family, I almost set the kitchen on fire(long story). I've also considered law, but I does seem to be a difficult and boring field. However, I have thought about architecture and building design. I am interested in this kind of thing, but is it a worthwhile career?
What style of architecture does this building follow? and why? http://s379.photobucket.com/albums/oo236/asdfasdf612/?action=view¤t=DSCN0043.jpg if your scared to click the link, it's pretty much a regular looking school. it was built in 1949 and renovated in 1991 answers im looking for: classical because... modern because... i absolutely have no idea what those terms mean, so defining would help a lot! thanks

Where can I major in Sustainable Architecture? I'm an incoming high school senior with an interest in architecture and ecology. I want to find a university with an architecture or engineering program focused primarily on building environmentally efficient housing and developing new ways of making houses and products more eco-friendly. From what I've researched, Sustainable Architecture sounds like what I want, but I'm open to any other majors similar. Any suggestions?
Where can I find a picture of an original historical architecture plan? I have an assignment at my architecture school to find a copy or a photogrphy of an architecture plan (construction of a building) older than the era between 750 ac - 1250 ac This plans are really rare and hard to find (they burned them all because the constuction of buildings was a highly protected secret then), I've been searching for 2 days and I'm really desperate. There are some maps in museum of Louvre but they are not exhibited and are not available for public.
Architecture of this building? Could someone tell me about the structure of the church in this painting? The style, etc..? Any useful web links. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Jerome_in_His_Study
I am building a model house and need help with lighting? For Architecture class I am building a model of the house I designed. I am planning on including lighting. What is the best way to go about doing this? In elementary school we cut up a strand of christmas lights and connected them to a 6v battery to light up a little shoebox house. Will this work for me or is there a more efficient way to go about this? Any suggestions are welcome, Thanks

Engineering or Architecture? If i wanted to buy land and build houses on it what would be the better choice? I know it takes money to buy the land or big parcels of land...and then build on it...My parents told me they would help me out as they do have the money. So is this a good way to go? right now i'm at a community college....i was thinking civil engineering but i think that might not be what i thought it was....and i think architecture might be the way to go.... One of the big points is that i want to own a business someday. So is Architecture the way to go?....or engineering?
