how to make an existing factory building green?
I am a final year student of architecture and doing an extension project of a factory building.I want to conceive its extension part as well as the existing structure as an environment friendly green building.please suggest some guidelines or the websites from where i can get the required data particularly for factory buildings.please note i have already gone through the LEED and Indian green building council's website but couldn't find any satisfactory data.

- Just paint it a similar colour to the surroundings. Maybe some cute flowers as well.

- I work in a factory. One thing you could do up front is to put in motion sensitive light switches. That way, you don't have to worry about people remembering to turn out light switches, especially in storage areas. You don't need windows in a factory either. It's just a distraction. Whatever the factory will produce and the waste management from that production should be considered now. I work in the pharmaceutical industry and hygenic zoning makes recycling and waste difficult to manage. This clearly wasn't accounted for in the layout of our facility when it was built in the 1960's or 70's. Be careful of drains that run from inside or near a factory and nearby streams. If an accident like this can happen, it will sooner or later.
- if you're working with an existing building, you could add green features: - recycling - paper, cardboard, electronic equipment etc can all be recycled - green light bulbs - composting? eg a wormery for staff food waste (we have at work for teabags etc) - green energy - install solar panels on the roof or build a wind turbine to generate electricity to use - get employees to car-share or use public transport - buy recycled paper for office use
