Where could my OCS marine bf be stationed with a job in finance/budgeting/accounting?

I want to be somewhat prepared for when my boyfriend of 6 years graduates from bootcamp and training at Camp Pendleton. I hear that I will have to rent by myself off grounds unless we are married? I would obviously want to start looking at careers in landscape architecture/ green building deisgn for which I have a Masters Degree. I know this will change him, and he may not ask me to be with him for the remaining 3 1/2 years , but I believe our love is strong and I want to be with him again eventually. This is really a hard thing to digest given his decision came so abruptly. But my hopes are that it will strengthen his respect and honor for what we have after it strengthens his personal goals and life discipline. HE needs this I know, its hard right now not feeling like our relationship stands first after so many years, but I support and respect this decision and pray I can be close to him. So I want to get an idea if any bases specialize in this job type.

  1. He's a Marine---He could be stationed anywhere in the world and just because he has a finance job doesn't mean he can't be sent in "harms way". All Marines are riflemen first, whether they are clerks, pilots, cooks, etc. Heck, the Marine Corps Band stationed in Washington D.C. won the Commandant's Rifle Competition (all Marine units participated) three years in a row back in the 60"s.
  2. Start looking at websites that specializes in government jobs.
  3. Accounting personnel can be stationed ANYWHERE.
  4. He could end up at any Marine Corps installation. They have financial management and comptroller offices everywhere. And yes, you will not be allowed to live with him on-base unless the two of you get married, but there's no rule that says he can't live with you off-base (even if you're not married). As an officer, he will get a fairly decent housing allowance -- how much depends on where he gets stationed. But here's an incentive: If he marries you he'll get a higher housing allowance.
