I WANT TO KNOW WHAT BOTH MEAN AND SO IF SOMEONE CAN PLEASE HELP ME I WILL REALLY APPRECIATE IT. DO THEY HAVE THE SAME MEANING OR ARE THEY TOTALLY DIFFERENT?? THANKS.

  1. No. Interior design is picking things like a certain paint color, window treatments, tile or granite counter tops, flooring, carpeting, furniture, accessories, fixtures, etc. Interior architecture would be designing the floor plan of the house, determining if a passageway should have an arch or be straight across, if a kitchen should have a soffit or not, where windows would go, how kitchen cabinets get positioned, etc.
  2. Yes, an Interior Designer and an Interior Architecture are pretty much the same thing. The titles are often interchangeable because they both are capable of the lay out of the structure of the building and know spatially where things do and do not belong. An architect designs the actual building, sometimes with or without the help of an Interior Designer. However, an Interior Designer also gets involved in the decorating portion of the space as far as what is used for flooring, built-in cabinetry, furniture, accessories and fabric elements of interior design. These things are not typically chosen by the architect. Not to add confusion. But, then there are Interior Decorators. Interior Decorators just decorate the already built structure with furnishings and fabric elements of interior design. I hope that clarifies your question.
  3. No, they are not the same thing. If someone is using the term architect, they should technically be a licenses architect. This requires certain training and certification. Anyone can call themselves an interior designer -- some are good, some are not. You want to ask about their experience -- where they studies, how many years they have been working in their field, etc. -- and also look at the work they have done in person.
