How is it that ancient architecture was so magnificent yet common homes, were so primitive.?
Why was it so extreme. Temples, Pyramids to huts and caves. I'm watching the history of Jesus now, and the Important structures were very lavish yet people lived in homes with Just beds and doors.....They had the building technology yet it seemed to be used for the higher class.

- Temples and pyramids were built by people who lived in houses, not huts and caves. Conversely, people living in huts and caves didn't build temples and pyramids.
- The ministers and kings built the temples and palaces. They had tons of money and resources. The peasants and ordinary people built the huts and hovels. They were pretty much broke. Each built to their means. The Kings built shrines to themselves. The peasants were concerned with keeping the rain off Momma's head. Good question, though.
- People lived outside, houses were to sleep and get protection from the weather. Poor people used the quickest and cheapest means to built those shelters, working for your daily food was more important. And the means of building more important structures cost a lot in time, material and manpower. Religion was very important, so you gave to the temples for the afterlife, from the lowest peasant to the king who could raise that kind of building for the sake of the souls of everyone in his kingdom.
- look at houses today - they are not like churches and large public buildings! I'm pretty sure what you think as primative served there purpose in times gone by. Large buildings don't tend to be warm and homely - never been in a warm cathedral yet!!!!
- same old story, religion and politics are lucrative businesses
- One word slaves. All the ancient monuments were built by slaves.
- To be honest, it was all down to bufget, much like it is today. The more money you had to spend, the bigger and better the building would be.
