What do you think the best building or architecture in the world? And why?

can be ancient or modern...

1. Ht Great SPhinx Pyramid..... no one would expect an old structure build by hand and basic materials could last that long!!!!
2. obviously the great pyramids, they are still a mystery and require so much innovation to create.
3. Sagrada Familia (spelling) by Gaudi -- because it looks like a place where Dracula would live :) and Notre Dame du Haute by Le Corbusier because it looks like a big delicious mushroom.
4. Cave houses, we live in Oklahoma. That way you wouldn't have to worry about a tonado taking you away. In the South East OK. Is the end of the ozark mountain range and a perfect place to build them. Lot's of rolling hills.
5. I would not know even if I was standing in or near it.
6. Temples in Angkor Vat in Cambodia. The great Temple complex built in 12th Century by King Surya Varman II for Hindu God Maha Vishnu covering an area of 81 hectares considered to be the biggest religious stucture in the world.
7. Ancient ones would be the ruins of ancient worlds. I can't really say which because each of them has something special. Ones that curently in my mind is the ruins of Trowulan, in East Java and a ruin of unknown city in West Java (still being explored and still unknown to the world)... why... because they are closest to me. Modern ones... hard to say... but I think I like Libeskind's Jüdisches Museum in Berlin, especially the crying well (or whatever it's named, i don't remember)... because this building served it's purpose to let you know the feeling of fear, pressure, and disorientation.
8. Ancient: The markets of Trajan. These are roman architecture that really differs from that of the forums, and is at a level of architectural and social complexity that I find amazing. For modern; I think that the Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Center by Renzo Piano is just about the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life. Until you see (good) photos of this, you don't believe a building like this could exist. Really, look for this on line. Immediately. 9. The sydney opera house it can withstand tremendous winds
10. There are different buildings that are great for different reasons. The Colloseum in Rome was huge, built like a modern stadium, and had all kinds of things going on in it. The Burj al Arab hotel in Dubai is incredibly tall, luxurious, and modern. It's buil to like an ancient Arabian ship called a dhow.
11. The Taj Mahal in India and the Haiga Sophia in Turkey top my list. Both are beautiful structures. The Haiga Sophia in particular has survived religion, war, and earthquakes.

Hagia Sophia because it is gorgeous The Kab'ba because of the energy Cleopatra's Needle because it is just that cool (I use to really like the Washington Monument but then i realized that it was the bootleg version on Cleopatra's Needle) St. Basil's Cathedral in Russia is also pretty cool. I love the colors. Even at its size, it seems pretty personable.
14. I'm willing to get cheesy here. After seeing the ancients well represented and not being able to narrow down my choice of medieval cathedrals, I feel compelled to admit my love of Frank Lloyd Wright homes. The rooflines, the scale, the harmony, the leaking roofs... *sigh* It must be love.
